Outdoor media campaign shines spotlight on University of Tartu spin-offs

As part of Tartu Entrepreneurship Week, which is taking place from 7-13 October, the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Tartu has launched an outdoor media campaign showcasing six of the university’s spin-offs.

Titled ‘From the University to the Global Market’, the campaign shines the spotlight on half a dozen deep-tech firms spawned by the University of Tartu which aim to extend their reach internationally. As such, posters featuring enterprising scientists from UP Catalyst, Vectiopep, EsaDres, GaltTec, Silklytics and Gearbox Biosciences are being displayed around Tartu and online until the end of the week.

  • GaltTec is developing innovative fuel cells that will extend the life of portable electronic devices.
  • Esadres is helping to mitigate the complications caused by chronic ulcers using wound dressings tailored to the needs of patients.
  • Silklytics is assisting farmers to evaluate soil fertility and avoid crop losses through affordable chemical analysis.
  • Gearbox Biosciences is helping to limit the use of antibiotics in the bioindustry.
  • UP Catalyst produces sustainable materials from CO2 emissions for the manufacturing of batteries.
  • Vectiopep technology is of use in hunting down and destroying tumour cells in cancer patients.

“The campaign is designed to show everyone in Tartu what our research-intensive spin-offs are doing and how useful their development activities are to society,” explained Kadri-Ann Kivastik, the Community Relations Coordinator at the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. “Very specific scientific subjects can be difficult to grasp, but problems and solutions tend to be much easier to understand. We wanted to showcase our spin-offs in a way that means everyone in the city who sees our ads will understand and appreciate the impact of the work that the enterprising researchers at the University of Tartu do.”
